Green Stink Bug

Green Stink Bug

As many of you know I have been slowly making a career move to become a professional photographer. Well this week I received an email from Canadian Geographic magazine regarding a photo contest I entered last year. Now unfortunately I didn’t win that contest, but I was short listed and since I was short listed, they have asked me to submit some photographs for a new publication featuring Canadian amateur wildlife photographers.

I have setup a gallery here of my possible choices. So it would mean a lot to me if I can get your help on choosing some pictures to submit. All I am asking you to do is to leave a comment to this post before the 26th of August with your top 3 picks. Just give me the number of the photograph that is located at the bottom left of the gallery. I will then tally the votes and make a few choices.

Thanks for everyones help and I will keep you all posted on the results if any.

Steve

*** Update Just to let you all know I posted pictures 8, 9, 15 all based on your comments. Thanks again for everyone who replyed to my call. ***

I chose nos: 9, 7,and 14 in that order because I found that the main subject was clearly defined and I also liked the angle at which these photos were taken. The colors also appealed to me.

I like 3,13,6 in that order…kindof represents Canada and since this is for a Canadian magazine it fits better…of course I could be wrong as I didn’t see any numbers in the gallery. :)

My choices are 9 (because the colour stands out), 11 (because I don’t know what kind of animal it is, looks like a Gremlin), and 15.

Good luck and hope things pan out for you.

I think they are all really good however my favorites which were very hard to choose are #9, 11 and 12. No. 9 being my most favorite as the color and definition is excellent.

Good luck. I really enjoy looking at your photos.

    Hi Steve,
I vote for 8, 15 and 13, in that order. I know so far people chose # 9, but I just think there’s something about number 8 that’s a little more enthralling than no. 9. Although no. 9 is a great picture. Good luck!

Again I will keep this post up to date with results and news I get back from Canadian Geographic.

  15. Geoff Bryden

Considering that it’s for “Canadian” Geographic magazine I would go with 5 & 15. Not sure where the bug is from but the photo is great, good contrast in colours, object really stands out in 9 as well.
    Hope this helps.

    Hey everyone. Again thanks.

I thought I should mentioned that the stink bug pictures were taken on a tree in front of my house. So as Geoff was wondering. As well, except for the monkeies and the lion, all the rest of the pitures are of Canadian animals in Canada.

Just to mention the Green Monkey pictures are taken in Barbados. The ducks were taken in the Gatineau park and the rest at Zoos across the country.

I hope this helps. Everyone is right in saying that the publication is for Canadian Geographic.

Hey Steve, great work! Like many people, my favourite is the bug shot … I love its detail and intricacy. But although it is clearly (from your description) a canadian native, I would have to say that my vote in order of preference are #15 (for its perspective, expression and emotion) #3 and #7.
    hope this helps:)

    9,8,5

I really like the background in 9, but agree with Val that 8 makes the stink bug stand out more.
